Co-op in Campus: NCCE fields battery of experts

In an ambitious workshop NCUI organized a Refresher Course on Cooperative Policy and Development for faculty of Indian Universities and Colleges recently with participants from various Universities exchanging their views and some presenting their papers through power point presentation.

More than 43 participants from Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand participated in the function.

Inaugurating the programme Dr. V.K. Dubey, Director NCCE outlined the importance of cooperation, values, principles & practices of cooperation. He stressed the need to adopt the same in field for best practices.

Dr. A.R. Srinath, Deputy Director & Course Coordinator, NCCE briefly explained the aims and importance of the programme. G. S. Azad, Ex-Director and Sr. Consultant, explained the growth and trends of cooperatives in India. He has stressed the need of participation in each & every sector.

Post-lunch session focused on “Role of Fishermen in Coops, in Blue Revolution and Socio- Economic Development of Weaker Section”. It was taken by B. K. Mishra, MD, FISHCOFED who emphasized the need of adoption of cooperatives as a business module for the growth & developments of cooperatives.

Several officials of NCCE spoke on the occasion. If Rajiv Sharma, Dy. Director spoke on “Systematic Approach to Training & its methods”, S K Verma elaborated on “Importance of communication/ public relations for development of cooperatives”.

Dr. B.B. Goel, Prof. of public administrations, Punjab University spoke on the “97th Constitutional Amendment Act. He shared his experiences about cooperative law, need for amendments, salient features of MSCS with recent changes & challenges.

Subhash Gupta, Chief Executive, NAFCUB spoke on “Challenges Before Urban Cooperative Sector”. He explained the role of urban coop banks in the development of the cooperative movement. S.K. Tucker, Advisor, NCDC spoke on “Programmes and Schemes of NCDC for Development of Cooperatives in India”.

Participants also visited the Southern Star Cooperatives Thrift & Credit (Urban) Societies located at Rajendra Place, New Delhi. They got the inputs about functioning of society accounts, accounted balance sheet, books of accounts etc, and interacted with P. Nair, Chairmen of the Society.

Former CE Dr Dinesh also took part in a session speaking on “Training Techniques for the Development of Cooperation”. Santosh Kumar, ICA Sec highlighted the “Role of ICA in Promotions of Education & Training” .

Dr. A.R. Srinath, Dy. Director, NCUI elaborated on “Role of NCUI for Development of Cooperative Education”, he talked about the importance of cooperative education for development of the cooperative movement.

Others who spoke included Ritesh Dey, Dy Director, NCUI, Prof. Yashavantha Dongre, University of Mysore and N. Satyanarayan, Chief Executive (I/c), NCUI.
