Who is he to call meeting: Mehta blasts Abhyankar

Cooperators connected to the NAFCUB say the recent order of self-proclaimed President Mukund Abhyankar to hold a Board meeting on 24th January with a single point agenda is a cleaver move on behalf of the latter. The one-point agenda is restricted to the holding of a successful international conference slated for the first week of February.

“Since he does not enjoy majority, he is avoiding meeting Directors on any other issue. Preparation for the International Conference has come in handy to him where he is proposing to keep Jyotindra Mehta as the Head of the Organizing Committee-showing a laughable magnanimity”, said a cooperator on condition of anonymity.

Explaining Abhyankar’s game-plan the cooperator who does not want to be identified said “By calling a meeting now he can avoid calling the next meeting up to six months- by when he hopes to consolidate his position with the Nafcub Board members”, added the source.

Reacting to the proposed board meeting on 24th, Mehta said when his assuming office is illegal his subsequent acts are also not valid. Does he have the right to call a Board meeting, he asked.

I do not know about the world but the Board members of NAFCUB are with me, said a confident Mehta. I feel sad at the sorry state of affairs but no matter how hard I try to avoid them, I cannot escape, he regretted.

Readers would recall that Abhyankar who was ousted by the Board 10 months ago , reclaimed his position on Monday after the 90 days period of the Arbitrator’s award was over. Mehta has served him with a legal notice and has asked him to first secure a decree for execution of Award from a civil court.

Meanwhile, the written judgment of Delhi High Court is yet to come. Mehta reminds that the Arbitrator in his Award did not restore Abhyankar’s post but merely found the Board meetings invalid.
