Nafcub: Saxena appointed Arbitrator

The case pertaining to the Nafcub elections which saw the ouster of Mukund Abhyankar and Jyotindra Mehta’s on the scene is going to be heard shortly after the recent appointment of G G Saxena as the new arbitrator.

Saxena is a retired IAS officer who earlier served as Transport Commissioner of Delhi. Brash and officious in both manner and form, Saxena would not answer the phone and respond to inquiries and want questions to be mailed instead. But strangely enough, he would not share his e-mail ID either. His approach was reminiscent of self-importance and imperiousness the British era ICS officers betrayed.

But Indian Cooperative has gathered that in May 2016 Central Registrar Ashish Bhutani appointed Saxena as the arbitrator in the matter of NAFCUB election. The first day of hearing has been fixed for July 1st.

The Bombay High Court had earlier rejected the petition of the outgoing President of NAFCUB Mukund Abhyankar challenging his ouster through a motion of no-confidence. The court had asked the petitioner to first follow the route of arbitration mediated by the Central Registrar.

Abhyankar had challenged his ouster on the ground that no separate Board meeting was called to discuss the lack of confidence in the President. Rather, in a routine Board meeting the matter was taken up and passed in unseemly haste.

Later talking to Indian Cooperative Mukund Abhyankar confirmed” yes I have got the intimation of Mr Saxena’s appointment and have got a date for the hearing.”

Parties to be heard are Cosmos Bank, Mukund Abhyankar, Returning officer and all the Directors of NAFCUB.” I am respondent number two while cosmos bank is respondent number one”, added Abhyankar.

Abhayankar also sounded confident of winning the arbitration. He lauded the impartiality of Saxena; he is a retired officer and therefore has no temptations, he underlined.
