Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in COP-28 in Dubai, leading co-op institution VAMNICOM discussed a business proposal for the primary agriculture cooperative society to link the farmers to the international carbon credit market.
The idea was that farmers’ regenerative agriculture practice will reduce carbon emission and also enable them to earn additional income in line with doubling of farmer’s income as envisioned by Hon Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi.
On the sidelines of 70th Cooperative Week in India, VAMNICOM organised a B-Plan completion for PACS for the PGDM ABM students to ensure their involvement in the process and infuse the newest business idea in the primary cooperative sector.
Dr. A K Asthana, Head of Department – Management Education, informed that the idea behind such competition was ideation of non-conventional business practice for conventional cooperative institutions, informs a press release issued by VAMNICOM.
The distinguished panel of judges consisted of Dr. Prashant Kadam, Professor and Head of Department – Entrepreneurship Development and Dr. Sangeeta Shroff, Professor and Head of Research Center scrutinized five business proposals and adjudicated two business proposals for primary agriculture cooperative society and fishery cooperative society for cash award.
The first award winning business proposal by Mr Abhisekh Kolhe was for the primary agriculture cooperative society to link the farmers to the international carbon credit market wherein their regenerative agriculture practice will reduce carbon emission and also enable them to earn additional income in line of doubling of farmer’s income as envisioned by Hon Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi.
The business entity will provide technical information and digital support to farmers for taking informed decisions and enable them to participate in the carbon credit market.
The second award winning business proposal by Ms Lovely Kumari and Mr Deepak Bansal was to fill the gap of fragmented fish markets that result in low return to fish farmers despite good catch. This proposal committed to sustainable practices and quality, implements a comprehensive marketing strategy to maximize market penetration and ensure fair returns to fishermen members.
Their marketing plan revolves around strategic partnerships with local markets, restaurants, and supermarkets, emphasizing the traceability and superior quality of our seafood. By highlighting our cooperative’s adherence to responsible fishing methods and stringent quality standards, the proposal aims to differentiate fishery cooperatives in the market. It deals with sustainable seafood, fostering long-term relationships with customers and ensuring a prosperous future for fishery cooperative members.
In Dubai, PM Modi said COP28 will also provide an opportunity to review progress made under the Paris Agreement, and chart a path for future courses on climate action. At the Voice of Global South Summit convened by India, the Global South spoke for the need for climate action based on the principles of equity, climate justice, and common but differentiated responsibilities, as well as a greater focus on adaptation.
It is important that efforts of the developing world be supported with adequate climate financing and technology transfer. They must have access to equitable carbon and development space to achieve sustainable development.
