V V P Nair, whose election to the NCUI Board raised many an eyebrow, is again in the news for putting pressure on the National Labour Cooperative Federation of India (NLCF) not to conduct AGM.
Nair’s disregard for the Central Registrar rulings that the AGM has to be conducted before 31st December is evident from the mails he has written to the MD Mrs Pratibha Ahuja and the officiating Chairman Amit Bajaj.
“Naik can be tried for attempting to disrupt the AGM”, said Amit Bajaj who is harassed by mails of VVP Nair threatening them (him and the MD) with all sorts of action including police complaints without an iota of truth in his favour.
Notwithstanding Nair’s pressure, NLCF has decided to hold the AGM on 28th December. “We cannot flout the established rules of MSCS Act only because one individual does not want it; there is after all a procedure for everything”, said the Vice Chairman of NLCF who is officiating as the Chairman.
“Nair is making blatant attempts to control NLCF and has even resorted to blackmailing by circulating a copy of Police complaint of fictitious story of misappropriation of funds. If he has any proof why he does not share the same with us, asks Bajaj. I have asked him so many times to give details and I will take action but he comes up with nothing concrete”, rued Bajaj.
Indian Cooperative has learnt that MD Mrs Pratibha Ahuja is no less harassed with Nair’s antics and her family is contemplating to lodge a counter case against Nair. “His constant phone calls and obnoxious mails are a constant source of nuisance for the management of NLCF, said Bajaj.
“I dare him to lodge a police complaint and we would try him under Section 182”, said Bajaj who sounded fed up with the low level of politics being indulged in by Nair. Bajaj also accuses Nair of not agreeing to the statutory condition of holding re-election of 7 Board members who were disqualified in the wake of an arbitration case last year.
The “MSCS Act stipulates a time-line by when the elections have to take place but this man is impossible”, Bajaj said. Nair’s critics even point out the fact that he has three labour co-op societies running from the same address somewhere in Goa and a probe by the Central Registrar can reveal the truth of them.
It bears recall that of late the NLCF has become a hotbed of controversies with charge and counter charge being levelled by co-operators against each other. Sanjeev Kushalkar, Ashok Dabas and VVP Nair are three of them, among others, who have contributed to the mess.
Well-meaning co-operators such as the ULCCS representative or even Amit Bajaj have little say in the matter. No wonder the labour co-op movement is on a ventilator in the country.
Interestingly, two of them- Kushalkar and Nair are now in the Governing Council of apex co-op body NCUI.
