“Sikkim IFFCO Organics” takes shape in Gangtok

IFFCO is set to enter the world of organic fertilizer in a big way by resolving to form a new joint venture with the Government of Sikkim. The venture would be known as Sikkim IFFCO Organics Ltd (SIFFCO). It aims to promote the organic fertilizer of Sikkim state worldwide via IFFCO’s new digital cooperative platform.

This was announced by Dr. U S Awasthi on Thursday in Gangtok during the celebrations of 50 years of IFFCO program. This was Dr. Awasthi’s 62nd port of call in the series of 125 visits planned to cover the whole of India.

Speaking on the occasion IFFCO MD Dr US Awasthi said, “We have always promoted the balanced use of fertilizers. We have been educating farmers on using traditional as well as new-technology driven practices. Sikkim is a fully organic state so it’s a good platform for organic fertilizers and plant growth promoters.”

Simultaneously IFFCO also opened cooperative membership for Sikkim. Women will be given preference. A detailed research of traditional Sikkim agriculture style will be studied and integrated with new technologies, said IFFCO media head on the phone from Gangtok when this correspondent asked him about the JV.

Objective of our MD is to promote business through cooperatives, added Harshendra Vardhan.

Lauding the achievements of the state in the field of organic fertilizer IFFCO MD also complimented the farmers for their awareness in the matter of soil health. The state is covered with health cards 100 per cent. MD tweeted ” I am happy to know that here in #Gangtok #Sikkim, nearly all farmers have made #Soil Health Card. Good to know that farmers care for soil.”

Dr. Awasthi felicitated several farmers of the area. Mr S C Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary and Mr R K Gautam Registrar of Cooperatives, Sikkim who attended the function also spoke on the occasion. The officials were also felicitated by Dr. Awasthi.
