Service to farmers is in IFFCO’s DNA: Awasthi

Mingling with them, taking selfies with them and goading them to go for eye-check up and digital banking are things that mark the day for IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi, currently on tour of South India.

In between, he never forgets to pay respect to farmers and keeps their interests supreme in his scheme of things. IFFCO is there because of these farmers and I am going to pay respect to each of them across states, was what he told this correspondent before embarking on this ambitious journey.

He tweeted the same from Vellore” Farmer is hero. Gives his entire life for us for our food. Let’s pay respect to him. Felicitated #farmers at #vellore in”.

Digital India and participation of women in cooperatives are other issues close to his heart. In Vellore he was thrilled by the sight of several farmers owning smartphones- a sure way to move to digital transactions. He tweeted “t’s all #digital action in #Vellore. So many #farmers with #SmartPhones. Glad to had a #Selfie. #Digital Banking is not far.

Similarly, the sight of woman farmers makes him no less happy as he believes their participation would put the country ahead. His words “It’s good to see #women #cooperators very active in #TamilNadu. #women #farmers plays vital role in our #agriculture.

After Chennai Dr Awasthi visited Vellore his 19th destination and on Thursday he was in Trichy-his 20th destination. He began the day by worshiping in the temple of Sri Ranganatha Swami at Trichi. He also interacted with local media in Trichi.

Awasthi has ensured co-op exhibitions are held at most places he visits so that the meeting has some meaningful takeaways for the farmers. He also asks IFFCO subsidiaries to be on board to coach farmers on various products IFFCO is producing as he proudly said “Service To Farmers is in DNA of IFFCO.”
