IUCF 2019: IFFCO MD in Kandla to felicitate winners

That IFFCO Managing Director Dr U.S. Awasthi is a cooperative icon became obvious as soon as he landed at the Kandla Airport Tuesday afternoon to wrap up the 10th Inter Unit Cultural Festival 2019 being held here by IFFCO employees and their family members. Kandla’s unit members were seen jostling to welcome him, their beloved MD.

Today is the D Day when the winners would be declared. Long story short, the best performances since last Wednesday would be presented before the MD who has come with his wife Mrs Rekha Awasthi to buck up the participants.

The much awaited cultural event was inaugurated by IFFCO Director R P Singh last week, who also happens to be its Chairman. The event is being organized at IFFCO’s Udaynagar Club Auditorium, Gandhidham, Gujarat. Beginning with the presentation of the host unit Kandla, the eight day event witnessed presentation of several scintillating programs.

Besides the five units, the IFFCO headquarters is also participating. Earlier, from each unit about 55 participants were selected. “We have judges from outside to bring transparency in the competition”, said Chairman of the 10th IUCF, R P Singh. “There is a scramble at the unit level also to get selected”, he added.

“See their josh (enthusiasm); even in such a hot and humid weather, they are practicing so hard”, said Awasthi indicating that the choice of the month of June is due to the summer vacation in schools. “It takes place every alternate year interspaced by another important event of the IFFCO- Sports competition”, stated the MD.

Awasthi’s as well as his wife’s presence adds flavor to the event, said Kandla unit members. He is not merely seen as an MD but also as the guardian of the IFFCO family. People here have hundreds of stories of Awasthi”s munificence and humanity when he went out of his way to help them. He is an icon and a human being par excellence before being anything else, they said in unison to this reporter.

No wonder, MD was given a guard of honour on his arrival. All the officers and their wives had lined up to greet the MD and his wife at the impressive guest house in the IFFCO township which gives any corporate facility a run for its money.

The event is highly valued in the IFFCO family as besides attracting the youth, it helps them connect to each other better. The eight day function will end with the MD distributing prizes. The latter sometimes amount to funding future education of the winners if they happen to be students.
