IFFCO’s farmers’ meet draws huge response

Undeterred by a malicious campaign by vested interests on social media, the world largest fertilizer cooperative IFFCO is intensifying its farmers’ connect campaign by distributing NPK consortia to more than 1200 farmers in Bihar on Sunday. The consortia, experts say, reduces the need of fertilizer by 25% and keeps the soil healthy.

IFFCO’s Kisan Sammelan as it is called was held in Areraj in Motihari of Bihar on Sunday. More than 2000 farmers participated in it. As the crowds kept swelling, we had to arrange additional number of chairs to accommodate them, says IFFCO Bihar marketing head Ajay Singh.

Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh –the Chief Guest for the event also inaugurated an IFFCO e-bazar on the occasion. Singh also explained to farmers about the various schemes launched by his govt which included soil-testing card, e-NAM, phasal bima and recently introduced e-haats. He exhorted them to get educated on these schemes so that they are able to reap benefits from the Modi govt initiatives.

Addressing the farmers IFFCO Marketing Head Yogendra Kumar explained how using water-soluble fertilizers can help them preserve both soil health and increase productivity. Kumar stressed on the increasing use of bio-fertilizer and expounded on their nitrogen-fixation potentials.

It bears recall that IFFCO is currently boosting the sale of bio-fertilizers and Yogendra Kumar is emerging as its brand ambassador with his penchant for describing the benefits of using Sagarika and related stuff.

Concerned with the erosion in the soil quality in the country IFFCO MD often tweets on the importance of maintaining soil-health. Recently he tweeted his concern “Did you know it can take up to 1,000 years to form 1 centimeter of top soil! We should focus on preserving it as it is essential for our #foodsecurity and our #sustainable future. #SaveTheSoil”.

Besides farmers, the programme in Motihari was also attended by Bihar state minister Pramod Kumar and local MLAs, MLCs. “There were several agricultural scientists also to update farmers on the latest agri-techniques’, said Ajay Singh who was the man behind this successful show.
