IFFCO to venture into agriculture machinery

In the 45th AGM the Managing Director of IFFCO Dr U S Awasthi announced that IFFCO would venture into the business of agricultural equipment as the prices being charged from the farmers in the market are a complete rip-off.

Awasthi said what you buy for Rs one lakh from the market should actually be priced at Rs 60-70 thousand. But all these will change with our intervention, he assured.

There are several machineries such as harvester, water pump, power tiller, etc where IFFCO is applying its mind. MD sought the support of delegates in achieving this goal. The middlemen who exploit poor farmers have to go, he thundered from the podium.

Readers would recall that IFFCO-MC was also launched last year with an aim to drive away the middle men in the field of pesticide. IFFCO-MC, a joint venture (JV) between farmers Cooperative Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO) and Japanese company Mitsubishi Corporation has rolled out 18 products, to begin with.

According to a study about 25 to 30 percent crops get destroyed due to poor quality pesticides in the country and it is a big challenge for the farming community to get quality products. “ We welcome them(Mitsubishi) as they chose us not a private company as the partner even when I had made it clear that profit is not what we are working for, said MD while welcoming the Japanese representative at the AGM.

This year the AGM saw a tremendous response from the delegates for IFFCO-MC products with many of them demanding a separate office in each district for the sale of products.
