IFFCO: Prez and King inaugurate JIFCO Plant
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The largest sulphuric acid plant of the world was inaugurated by President of India Pranab Mukherjee and King of Jordan King Abdullah on Saturday in the town of Eshidiya, 325 kms from Jordan’s capital city of Amman.

A joint venture between IFFCO and JPMC the foundation stone for JIFCO had been laid by King Abdullah in 2009 and now it has gone operational with the IFFCO MD claiming that in the first year of commissioning JIFCO should operate above 80% capacity.

Jubilant MD of IFFCO Dr U S Awasthi kept tweeting the event at every stage. He tweeted” Glad 2 share dt today HM King Abdullah of #Jordan & Hon’ble President of India @RashtrapatiBhvn inaugurated #JIFCO.”

In the case of this particular project, we and our Indian partners are working on converting around two million tonsawasth 4 of rock phosphates extracted from Eshidiya Mine into phosphoric acid, a major component of several types of fertilizers, which will then be purchased by IFFCO to manufacture its complementary products in India. Indeed, this is an industrial venture that benefits both of our countries’ economies and peoples,” Al-Majali the Chairman of JPMC added.

Awasthi also tweeted to inform that Phosphoric acid produced at the plant will be exported to Kandla port in Gujarat from Jordan’s Aqaba port, which is close to the location of the plant. The plant will meet the requirements of India’s agricultural sector in view of a meager availability of phosphates in India.

Dr. U S Awasthi tweeted” #JIFCO overcame challenges of construction, commissioning & setting up project in deserts of Eshidiya #Jordan vid support 4rm #JPMC & #IFFCO.

The project is worth $860 million and is billed as the world’s biggest phosphoric acid complex. ET sources add ”International Finance Corporation (IFC) has given a loan of $335 million to the project in which IFFCO has a 52 per cent stake. The two leaders inaugurated the plant using remote buttons, with the project and workers visible on a large screen at the Al Husseinieh Palace.”

awasthi 1IFFCO also announced a grant of 1,00,000 Jordanian Dinars to Queen Alia’s fund to support education in Jordan as tweeted by Dr Awasthi “#IFFCO is always committed2 #people & will also support local community for #education & other #development purposes”.

IFFCO has deputed a team of experienced engineers and technicians from its plants in India to support JIFCO and its plant operations, tweeted Awasthi.
