The board meeting of IFFCO held on Monday at its headquarters, passed a resolution authorizing Vice-Chairman Dileep Sanghani to preside over Board meetings and AGMs till a regular Chairman is elected. Sanghani will continue to look after his assignment as the Vice-Chairman.
Jolted by the demise of Balvinder Singh Nakai, the Board needs time to focus on the election of a regular Chairman, said one of the Directors on condition of anonymity adding Sanghani may be called an officiating Chairman as of now.
Sharing details of the meeting, IFFCO Vice-Chairman Dileep Sanghani tweeted , “Paid homage to IFFCO Chairman Late Balvinder Singh Nakai in the board meeting and attended the meeting as Chairman”.
“Sanghani is already Chairman of NCUI and GUJCOMASOL. According to the multi state co-op act, an individual could be Chairman of two entities and thus there is no issue in Sanghani becoming an officiating Chairman of IFFCO, GUJCOMASOL being not a multi-state co-op body”, said the Director.
In the first Board meeting after the demise of Shri B S Nakai, the Board of Directors paid tributes to Late Sardar Balvinder Singh Nakai by keeping a two-minute silence. The condolence meeting was held in the Boardroom at IFFCO’s headquarters in Delhi.
Tweeting about the meeting, IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi wrote “Today, the Board of Directors of IFFCO paid tributes and homage to Late Sardar Balvinder Singh Nakai Ji by keeping a two-minute silence. IFFCO has lost a veteran Cooperator who served Cooperatives & farming communities throughout his life.
It bears recalling that the IFFCO Chairman Late Balvinder Singh Nakai passed away on 11th October after a prolonged illness. The Bhog & Antim Ardaas for the departed soul has been kept on Thursday, 21st of October. The event would be held at the native place of late Shri Nakai at Nakai Farm, Rampura Phul in Bathinda, Punjab.
Nakai had been a very popular co-operator as is evident from the tributes paid by people after his demise. While co-operators cutting across regions or sectors paid him glowing tributes, there were also the likes of the Prime Minister, Home Minister and many other cabinet ministers offering their homage to the great leader.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi called him a man who empowered farmers all his life, Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said it’s an irreparable loss to the cooperative fraternity.
