IFFCO: Board inducts Singh and Patel as Directors

Mr A K Singh, Senior ED has been inducted into the IFFCO Board as a Functional Director and entrusted with the job of cooperative development. The post was under the additional charge of HR and Legal Head R P Singh after Dr G N Saxena retired a few months back.

The decision to appoint Mr Singh as Director Cooperative Development and Relation was taken in the Board meeting on 20th May, a day before the Annual General Meeting of IFFCO.

Another notable decision taken in the Board meeting was elevation of Mr M R Patel as a Functional Director (IT). Mr Patel is currently ED in the Kandla Unit of the fertilizer cooperative and brings with him a vast experience from IT related fields.

It is for the first time that an IT man has been inducted in the IFFCO Board and this underlines the importance the largest farmers’ cooperative has been attaching to the IT skills in recent times. IFFCO source says Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi has constantly been advocating professionalization and the increasing use of the cutting edge technology.

In the just concluded AGM, IFFCO set up Twitter Stall to educate and enroll its member societies in the ways of modern times and became perhaps the first cooperative organization in the world to do so. Its on-line transfer of dividends to members on the very day of AGM was something cooperatives have never heard of, quipped a cooperator.

Readers would recall that one of the amendments effected in the AGM pertained to increasing the number of functional Directors. The amendment stipulated that there shall be eight functional directors with the addition of Director (IT Services). While Mr Singh fills the gap resulting from Dr Saxena’s retirement, Mr Patel has been inducted as the eighth Director.

The two new Board members Singh and Patel would join on the first of June.
