IFFCO aligns with Green Hydrogen Mission; signs MoU with ACME

In a significant move towards promoting sustainability in the agriculture sector, Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), the world’s largest fertiliser cooperative, has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ACME Cleantech Solutions Private Limited (ACME), a frontrunner in renewable energy.

Under the terms of the agreement, ACME will supply approximately 200,000 metric tons of ammonia to IFFCO, manufactured through a renewable energy route. This collaboration is aligned with the National Green Hydrogen Mission, spearheaded by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, aiming to position India as a global hub for the production, utilization, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.

The ammonia production will take place at ACME’s plant in Gopalpur, Odisha, utilizing renewable energy sources. ACME will leverage green credits in the form of Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, fostering international cooperation in climate action.

The commercial-grade ammonia supplied will cater to IFFCO’s facilities in Paradeep, Odisha, and Kandla, Gujarat, supporting the manufacturing of complex fertilizers crucial for enhancing agricultural productivity.

Hiren Mehta, Chief Commercial Officer at ACME, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with IFFCO marks a significant stride in our mission to advocate for sustainable energy solutions. The MoU lays the groundwork for bilateral agreements between India and other nations under the Paris Agreement.”

Birinder Singh, Director (CRS) at IFFCO, emphasized the importance of the collaboration in advancing sustainability goals, saying, “Partnering with ACME allows us to reinforce our commitment to sustainability and provide environmentally friendly fertilizers to our nation’s farmers. This collaboration aligns with our efforts to innovate in fertilizer production and supply.”

ACME Cleantech Solutions Private Limited specializes in developing renewable energy projects, including green hydrogen and green ammonia plants, both in India and abroad. On the other hand, IFFCO is a multi-state cooperative society dedicated to manufacturing and marketing high-quality fertilizers, with a focus on supporting Indian farming communities and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Once the signing of the MoU was done, IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi tweeted “Glad to share that IFFCO has signed a MoU with ACME Cleantech Solutions Private Limited (ACME), a pioneer in renewable energy for the purchase and supply of about 200,000 MT Ammonia made through renewable energy route; a significant step towards sustainable agriculture and renewable energy usage in India. This initiative is in line with Hon’ble PM Sh. @narendramodi Ji’s vision of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. This will make India the Global Hub for production, usage and export of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives. This collaboration will also contribute to India’s aim to become Aatmanirbhar through clean energy.”
