DBT: IFFCO hails Minister’s statement

Welcoming the statement on direct fertilizer subsidy transfer to farmers’ bank account by the Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers Hansraj Gangaram Ahir in the Lok Sabha, IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi said that IFFCO would lend all possible support to make it successful.

Dr. U S Awasthi tweeted “#IFFCO is happy to learn the assurance of #GOI on #DBT on #Fertiliser 2# farmers it will whole heartedly make it successful.”

The news apparently enthused many in the IFFCO as his followers joined social media in a big way supporting the idea. One of them said that “This is a great achievement for us. i recollect you  the pioneer 4 this programme from the beginning. Congrats.”

Earlier, in these columns we gave in detail the statement of Hansraj Gangaram Ahir who in reply to a question in Lok Sabha said that the government proposes direct fertilizer subsidy transfer to farmers’ bank account.

The Minister said that a major challenge in operationalizing this scheme lies in identification of beneficiary farmers as in many states the land records are neither accurate nor updated. This can be overcome by a phased approach and through pilot project in select districts, he added.

Earlier, pitching decisively for director transfer of subsidies to farmers, IFFCO has offered to lend support for whatever it takes to make it successful. Managing Director of IFFCO Dr U S Awasthi had said that “IFFCO is ready to train the farmers, finance the required swipe machines and any other infrastructure needed to make this dream project come true.
