Awasthi tweets on Forest Day

FOREST DAY copy copyIFFCO Managing Director tweeted on the occasion of International Forest Day that falls every year on 21st of March and exhorted people to go green. This day was established by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly more than a hundred years ago and is celebrated in many countries to promote afforestration.

Seizing on the opportunity Dr US Awasthi exhorted his followers to plant trees and save the soil, a concern lately taken up by the NDA government by resorting to what is known as soil health card.

Dr. U S Awasthi (@drusawasthi) tweeted on Saturday  “ Today is #Int Forest Day. Let’s Save Our Soils, Grow More Trees. Let’s #Go Green. #IFFCO’s #IFFDC is Forest Commitment.”

The IFFDC, which the MD refers, hogged media headline recently when it won “The Times of India Social Impact Awards” in the environmental category.

An IFFCO’s arm- Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative (IFFDC) started its farm forestry activities for wasteland development since 1986-87 in the states of U.P., M.P. and Rajasthan. More than, 26,900 ha. of wastelands have been converted into sustainable multipurpose green forests through 145 village level PFFCS with a membership base of 28,500.

The United Nations Organization celebrates the International Day of Forests on the 21st day of March each year. Various events are celebrated to raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests, and trees outside forests, for the benefit of current and future generations.

On Saturday IFFCO MD also wished his follower a happy new year as the day signified the beginning of New Year in Vikrami Samvat. He tweeted “ Heartiest congratulations to all on New Year #Vikram Samvat 2072 and Ugadi.”
