Awasthi bats for DBT at ET Agro-Summit-2015

Managing Director of the largest farmers’ cooperative IFFCO Dr U S Awasthi was invited to the prestigious financial daily Economic Times to participate in its “ET Agro-Summit-2015” held at Shangri-La’s Eros Hotel in New Delhi on Friday.

The Economic Times Agro Summit aims at bringing in together industry visionaries and stalwarts to discuss issues which are crucial to helping the agri sector move to the next level.

Dr U S Awasthi spoke at length on his favorite topic of direct cash transfer to farmers and reminded the assembled gathering that farmers should not be treated as weak. He said “we don’t need to show mercy on our farmers. Instead let us make them more powerful and empowered. Let farmer decide his own destiny.”

Offering all help to make DBT successful Dr Awasthi said IFFCO is ready to lend support for whatever it takes to make it successful. IFFCO is ready to train the farmers, finance the required swipe machines and any other infrastructure needed to make this project come true, he asserted.

He identified three key elements for the success of DBT- Jan Dhan Yojana, Aadhar card and Mobile Number as his tweet explained” #JanDhanYojana, #Aadhar & #MobileNumber. Trinity initiative of #GOI can implement #DBT 2 d beneficiary farmer in a seamless manner.

Elaborating on the gains of DBT Dr. U S Awasthi said it will also solve the problems of excessive use of urea and help us save our soils. “#DBT will help Farmers 2 go 4 economic and balanced application of fertilizer in an efficient manner. #SaveTheSoil “, he tweeted.

Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Union Minister of State for Agriculture inaugurated the event where as S Ayappan, secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), Harsh Kumar Bhanwala, CMD of NABARD, R G Agarwal, Group Chairman & Whole time Director of Dhanuka Foods, Rajesh Shrivastava of Rabo Equities, SachidMadan, MD of Technico Pvt and Sanjeev Chopra, Joint Secretary in Ministry of Agriculture were some of the eminent Advisory and Speakers present in the event.

Meanwhile, Social media enthusiast and IFFCO PR Head Mr Harshendra Singh Vardhan posted on his Face Book that in a very short span of time IFFCO MD Dr Awasthi has acquired more than two thousand followers on Twitter.
