Assam CM flags off IFFCO Nano Urea; seeks plant in his state

Joining the ever-growing club of states eager to use Nano Urea, Assam flagged off the first consignment of the same virtually. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma himself did so on Saturday.

Besides the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, several top IFFCO men attended the flagging off ceremony virtually. These included IFFCO Vice Chairman Dileep Sanghani and Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi, among others. Sarma was also accompanied by several govt officials.

The truck was flagged off from Kalol where a team of IFFCO officials were present. Sarma termed IFFCO’s initiative as a “game changer” in the history of modern agriculture across the globe due to its benefits.

Sarma also urged IFFCO to set up a nano urea plant in Assam. He urged the cooperative to take initiatives for streamlining fertiliser distribution channels for smooth supply of urea and other fertilisers to farmers of the state.

Tweeting about the event, IFFCO MD wrote “#IFFCONanoUrea truck was virtually flagged off today by Hon’ble CM of Assam in presence of Sh. @ATULBORA2 Min of Agriculture & Cooperatives, Sh. @cmpatowary Min for Industrial Devp. & officials from State & #IFFCO.”

It bears recalling that on Friday, Union Minister of Chemical and Fertilizer Mansukh Mandaviya praised IFFCO Nano Urea in Rajya Sabha. He stressed that the field trials have proved their efficacy both in terms of yields and environmental safety.

Ever since IFFCO introduced the world’s 1st Nano Urea in May, several states have queued up for its supply. There are many states such as Telangana, Karnataka and now Assam which have requested the co-op titan to set up IFFCO Nano plants in their respective states.

National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd (RCF) PSUs of DoF have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd. (IFFCO) for the technology transfer for production of Nano Urea.

IFFCO has also sought permission from the Department of Fertilizers for the export of Nano Urea (liquid) manufactured from its Nano Fertilizer Plant facility set up at Kalol, Gujarat.

“The response is gladdening to the heart of our MD who had dreamed of wide acceptance of the Nano range of fertilizers. The response is more than expected”, said R P Singh IFFCO Director and a close associate of the MD.
