India’s first national university dedicated exclusively to the cooperative sector, Tribhuvan Sahkari University (TSU) has made a strong beginning by combining academic excellence with impressive employment outcomes. TSU recorded 100 percent placements for its first graduating batch while simultaneously ushering in a new phase of leadership with the appointment of Prof. Dr. S. P. Singh as its first full-time Vice Chancellor.

The twin developments are being viewed as significant milestones in the Ministry of Cooperation’s efforts to professionalize the cooperative sector and create a pipeline of skilled human resources for cooperative institutions across the country.

Established under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, TSU has been created to serve as the country’s apex institution for cooperative education, research, innovation and capacity building.

The university came into existence through an Act of Parliament after the transformation of the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) into a national university dedicated to the cooperative movement. It was declared an Institution of National Importance to strengthen professional education and leadership in cooperatives.

The university’s achievement of 100 percent placements in its very first academic year underlines the growing demand for professionally trained manpower in the cooperative sector. The placement success reflects TSU’s emphasis on industry-oriented education, practical learning, skill development and employment-linked training, preparing graduates for careers in dairy, agriculture, banking, marketing, housing and other cooperative institutions.

The university is working towards realizing the vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” by equipping young professionals with the knowledge, management skills and values needed to strengthen India’s vast cooperative ecosystem. The achievement also reinforces confidence in the university’s curriculum and its close engagement with cooperative organizations.

Adding further momentum to the institution’s growth is the appointment of Prof. (Dr.) S. P. Singh as the university’s first Vice Chancellor. A distinguished academician, U.S. Fulbright Fellow and institution builder with more than 34 years of experience in higher education, Prof. Singh has earned recognition for establishing and strengthening universities and promoting skill-based education.

Under his leadership, TSU aims to evolve into a global centre of excellence in cooperative education, research, innovation and institutional development. The university plans to nurture future-ready cooperative leaders, expand research in cooperative management, encourage innovation and create a world-class ecosystem for education and capacity building.

The university’s progress has already attracted national attention. At its first convocation held recently in Anand, Gujarat, Union Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol highlighted TSU’s role in promoting professionalism, quality training, research and digital innovation in the cooperative sector, while encouraging graduates to leverage artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to transform cooperative enterprises. The first graduating batch included more than 300 students, reflecting the institution’s rapid academic growth.

With outstanding placement results, strong academic leadership and a clear national mandate, Tribhuvan Sahkari University appears well positioned to emerge as India’s premier institution for cooperative education, producing professionals capable of driving the next phase of growth in the country’s cooperative movement.
