Union Home Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday informed the Rajya Sabha that Tribhuvan Sahkari University has significantly expanded its academic and capacity-building initiatives, establishing five new schools, launching four specialised MBA programmes, affiliating 16 institutions across 10 states, and conducting 32 training programmes aimed at strengthening India’s cooperative ecosystem.
Replying to a question in the House, Shah said the University has established the School of Cooperative Management, School of Cooperative Banking and Finance, School of Agribusiness Management, School of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and the School of Governance, Development and Policy to create a dedicated talent pool for the cooperative sector.
He said the University has also introduced four new MBA programmes in Cooperative Management, Cooperative Banking and Finance, Agribusiness Management, and Development Management and Cooperation to meet the growing demand for professionally trained cooperative managers.
According to the Minister, student enrolment has increased from 346 in the 2025-26 academic session to 350 in 2026-27.
The highest enrolment continues to be in Rural Management, while admissions have witnessed sharp growth in the newly introduced cooperative-focused MBA programmes. Besides academic programmes, the University has trained 887 participants through 32 specialised training programmes covering cooperatives, rural development, governance, leadership, agribusiness and financial inclusion.
Shah informed the House that the University has organised training and exposure programmes for PACS officials, cooperative leaders, women farmer producer companies, dairy cooperatives, panchayat representatives, officials from state governments, and institutions engaged in agriculture and rural development.
These programmes included specialised sessions on Cooperation among Cooperatives, PMFBY and Kisan Credit Card, leadership development, agri value chains, women’s empowerment, and management of farmer producer organisations.
The Minister also highlighted several consultancy assignments undertaken by the University, including studies on the status of women cooperatives in India, business diversification of PACS, price risk management for FPOs, biofuel impact assessment, and preparation of a white paper on Shwetdhara, a long-term women-led rural dairy livelihood programme.
To strengthen cooperative education nationwide, Shah said the University has affiliated 16 institutions spread across 10 states, including premier institutes such as Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM), Administrative Staff College of India, Birla Institute of Management Technology, and several Institutes of Cooperative Management.
He further informed the Rajya Sabha that, apart from MBA programmes, the University has developed specialised certificate courses for PACS secretaries and staff, dairy and fisheries cooperatives, directors of District Central Cooperative Banks, and cybersecurity professionals working in cooperative banks to strengthen professional management and digital capabilities across the sector.
