Renowned cooperative scholar and a senior bureaucrat in Govt of India Dr. K. K. Tripathy has co-authored a significant new book that is expected to serve as an important guide for strengthening India’s cooperative movement through modern management practices while preserving its core cooperative values.

Titled “Cooperative Management: The Indian Perspectives” (Nurturing Cooperation through Cooperatives), the book, co-authored by Dr. Harekrishna Misra and Dr. Sagar Kisan Wadekar, comes at a crucial juncture when the cooperative sector is witnessing sweeping reforms under the National Cooperation Policy, 2025, and the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

A respected bureaucrat, academic and authority on cooperative governance, Dr. Tripathy has drawn upon his extensive administrative and sectoral experience to present a practical roadmap for making cooperatives more professionally managed, technology-driven, member-centric and globally competitive.

The book bridges the gap between cooperative philosophy and contemporary management, offering actionable insights for policymakers, cooperative institutions, bankers, trainers, researchers and students.

Spread across nine comprehensive chapters, the publication examines the evolution of the cooperative movement, governance and legal frameworks, cooperative banking, human resource management, digital transformation, value addition, market orientation, and the ongoing transformation of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) into Multi-purpose PACS (MPACS). It also explores emerging opportunities for next-generation cooperatives in a rapidly changing economic landscape.

The authors argue that professional management and cooperative principles are not mutually exclusive but mutually reinforcing, making the book highly relevant for institutions seeking to improve governance, efficiency and member participation. Designed as both a textbook and a practical reference, each chapter includes learning objectives along with review and reflection exercises to encourage critical thinking and real-world application.

The book was released on 27 July 2026 by Cooperation Secretary Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani in the presence of NABARD Chairman Shaji K. V., RBI Central Board Director Satish Marathe and Sahakar Bharati National Patron D N Thakur. It is expected to become an important reference for shaping the next phase of India’s cooperative development and advancing the national vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi.”
