Tomar gets Agriculture Ministry, Gowda to continue as fertilizer minister

Narendra Singh Tomar, a three-time MP has been made Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare replacing Radha Mohan Singh.

People are wondering why Prime Minister Narendra Modi has chosen Tomar as Agriculture Minister when he has no known past experience in this field.

Kailash Chaudhary and Parshottam Rupala have been made Ministers of State for Agriculture.

Karnataka senior BJP leader DV Sadananda Gowda will be Minister of Chemical and Fertilizers.

Mansukh L. Mandaviya has been given the Minister of State in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.

Narendra Singh Tomar the new Agriculture Minister has had a chequered political career starting as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Youth Wing leader in the early 80s to becoming a Cabinet Minister for the second time in the Modi government in 2019.

He was born on June 12, 1957 at Murar in Gwalior district, Narendra Singh Tomar was President of the Gwalior Unit of the BJP Youth Wing from 1980-84. In 2014, Narendra Singh Tomar won the Lok Sabha election from Gwalior and was made responsible for several Ministries including Mines, Steel, Labour and Employment, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.

The new Chemicals and Fertilizers minister Gowda has won the Lok Sabha election from the high-profile Bangalore-North seat.

Gowda has held three portfolios in the previous Modi Cabinet — Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Law, and eventually the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. A law graduate, Gowda cut his teeth in politics in the 80s with Jan Sangh.
