Souharda Fed Co-op: Elected Directors choose Reddy as Chairman

B.H.Krishna Reddy has been elected unopposed as the new Chairman of Karnataka based powerful cooperative body Karnataka State Souharda Federal Cooperative. Jagadish Kavatagimatta from Belgavi Division has been declared elected as the Vice-Chairman. Their elections took place last Monday in Banglore.

It bears recall that in the elections held a fortnight ago the panel led by Sahakar Bharati had won majority of seats.

The new Chairman Reddy replaces Gurnath Jantikar from Kalburgi Division from Bidar District.

Talking to this correspondent after his appointment, the newly elected Chairman of the federation said “Last month the elections of the board members were held where I got 256 votes out of 350 and my rival- Ramachandran got only 140 votes. The vice-chairman Kavatagimatta got 350 out of 650 votes”.

“Since 15 years I am on the board of Karnataka State Souharda Federal Cooperative. I have an action plan for my five year tenure. We have purchased a land in Malleswaram for Rs 11 crore for building our own Administrative office. Presently, we are renting an office in Bangalore”, he said to this correspondent.

The Government of Karnataka has also allotted us a land where we will build our own training centre, said Reddy.

Describing the election process Reddy said “There are four divisions in Karnataka i.e. Banglore, Mysore, Belgavi, Kalburgi from which 21 directors were elected, two from Belgavi division namely R.N Deshpande and Siddaramappa were elected unopposed. The election was also held for the remaining 19 seats out of which 17 seats were won by the Sahakar Bharati panel. The remaining two seats were won by others, Reddy added.

There are more than 4,000 Souharda cooperative societies registered under the new cooperative act out of which 1,575 are eligible to cast their votes.

Souharda Federal Cooperative is a democratically elected self-regulatory organization of the cooperatives registered under the Karnataka Souharda Sahakari Act, 1997.”

The patron of Sahakar Bharati was quick to extend his greetings to the newly elected on social media “Heartiest Congratulations to Veteran CoOperators – Sh Krishna Reddy of Banglore and to Sh Jagadish Kavatagimath of Belgaum – on their unanimous election as President and V President of Souharda Federation. “
