PACS to act as stores for generic medicines; Shah to distribute Codes

Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah will address the National Mega Conclave on the topic “PACS as Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra” organized by the Ministry of Cooperation today at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.

On occasion the Minister is also likely to distribute Store Codes to some of the PACS in order to signal the arrival of new age for the Primary Cooperative Societies in the country, which number close to a lakh spread across states in the country.

The mega event is likely to be attended by Union Chemical, Fertilizers and Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State for Cooperation B.L Verma. In a tweet, the cooperative lender and the main organizer of the event NCDC says that the Minister is also going to distribute Store codes to some of the PACS.

Besides hundreds of members of PACS who have come from across the country, the event would be livestreamed for those who do not make it to the venue. Earlier, the Indian Cooperative reported that in order to enhance Rural Healthcare, Union Minister Amit Shah will preside over Seminar at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi on Monday where he would also give 2300 co-ops get approval as Jan Aushadhi Kendra.

PACS were recently granted the authority to operate Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras. Remarkably, over 4400 PACS/Cooperative Societies from 34 States/UTs have submitted online applications for this initiative.

More than 2300 cooperative societies have received initial approval, with 146 ready to function as Jan Aushadhi Kendras. This initiative opens new avenues for PACS, fostering diversification and economic expansion. It is expected to boost the incomes of millions of small and marginal farmers linked with PACS, simultaneously creating employment opportunities in rural areas.

In a release the Ministry claims “PACS, the foundation of the cooperative movement, are actively serving rural farmers. The Ministry of Cooperation is aligning its efforts with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sahakaar-se-Samriddhi.” Initiatives include the computerization of PACS, linking them to NABARD through a common national software, formulation of Model Byelaws, and the establishment of a National Cooperative Database and New National Cooperative Policy.”

Today’s Mega Conclave will see the participation of Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries of Cooperation Department, Registrars of Cooperative Societies from all States/Union Territories, and representatives from PACS holding drug licenses for Jan Aushadhi Kendras. The event will be live-streamed on major social media platforms, facilitating broader engagement.
