The election to the Board of Directors of the National Federation of State Cooperative Banks (NAFSCOB) is heading towards a potentially unopposed outcome, with 22 valid nominations received for 21 general seats.
The Returning Officer published the list of valid nominations on Thursday evening, following scrutiny of the nomination papers.
With only one nomination exceeding the total number of available seats, the withdrawal of even one candidate could pave the way for all 21 Board members to be elected unopposed.
The next crucial step is scheduled for Friday, October 30, when candidates can withdraw their nominations between 11 AM and 3 PM. The final list of contesting candidates will be published thereafter.
The 22 nominees include Nand Kishore Singh from Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Bank, Ganni Veeranjaneyulu from Andhra Pradesh, Biswajit Phukan from Assam, Kedar Nath Gupta from Chhattisgarh, Dr. Bijender Singh from Delhi, Pandurang N Kurtikar from Goa, Ajaybhai H Patel from Gujarat, Davender Singh Shyam from Himachal Pradesh and Bharat Bhushan Juyal from Haryana.
The other nominees are Bibha Singh from Jharkhand, K N Rajanna from Karnataka, Mohan Master from Kerala, Mahendra Singh Yadav from Madhya Pradesh, Vidyadhar V Anaskar from Maharashtra, Waibha K Kyndiah from Meghalaya, Lalnunsanga from Mizoram, T Prasad Rao Dora from Odisha, Jagdev Singh from Punjab, Dr. Samit Sharma, IAS, from Rajasthan, Jitendra Bahadur Singh from Uttar Pradesh, Pradeep Mehrotra from Uttarakhand and Aveek Bhattacharya from West Bengal.
If one of the 22 candidates withdraws, the number of remaining candidates will match the 21 available seats, potentially resulting in an unopposed election without the need for polling. However, if all 22 candidates remain in the contest, voting will take place on November 5, 2026, from 8 AM to 4 PM.
The counting of votes will follow the polling, and the results of the Board election are scheduled to be declared on or before November 13. Subsequently, the newly constituted Board will elect NAFSCOB’s office bearers on November 17, 2026.
The election is being conducted under the supervision of the District Collector and Magistrate, Thane, appointed as the Returning Officer.
