A cooperative upheaval is afoot in Madhya Pradesh with the Shivraj Singh Chauhan govt. in Madhya Pradesh declaring its intent to revamp the cooperative banking sector in the state.
It has sought resignations from the board chairmen of 27 district central cooperative banks and put these banks under the control of cooperative officials toward this end.
There are reports of deputy and assistant cooperative registrars already assuming charge of DCCBs at places in the state. At some places district collectors have also taken over the charge of the DCCBs.
However, because of an order given by the court, the boards of the DCCBs in Panna and Bhind are continuing to govern the banks as before.
Sources maintain the Chauhan govt. sets great store by the cooperative sector using the last bit of its power to strengthen it to in order to speed up economic transformation of the state.
