The Ministry of Cooperation will celebrate its fifth Foundation Day with a national-level function at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on July 6, 2026. Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah will be the chief guest at the event, marking five years since the Ministry was established on July 6, 2021, with the objective of providing a dedicated policy framework for strengthening India’s cooperative movement.
The celebrations conclude a week-long nationwide campaign held from June 29 to July 6 under the theme “Sahakar Se Samriddhi”, with participation from states, Union Territories, national cooperative federations, cooperative banks, District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs), Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs), Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and thousands of grassroots cooperative institutions.
Throughout the week, programmes focused on farmer welfare, PACS transformation, digital cooperatives, financial literacy, women and youth participation, artificial intelligence, green growth and the dissemination of cooperative success stories.
Over the past five years, the Ministry has spearheaded one of the most comprehensive reform programmes in the history of India’s cooperative sector. More than 60 major initiatives have been introduced to modernise cooperative institutions, strengthen governance, improve transparency and expand business opportunities across agriculture, dairy, fisheries, storage, housing and several other sectors.
Among its key achievements has been the nationwide computerisation of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), enabling better governance, improved financial management and digital service delivery at the grassroots. The Ministry has also promoted the establishment of thousands of new multipurpose PACS, strengthened the cooperative banking system, launched the world’s largest grain storage plan in the cooperative sector, initiated White Revolution 2.0 to enhance milk production and rural incomes, and accelerated the formation of two lakh new cooperative societies across the country.
The National Cooperative Policy 2025 has provided a long-term roadmap for making cooperatives more vibrant, competitive and professionally managed.
Technology-driven reforms have become a defining feature of the Ministry’s work. Digital platforms, cooperative databases, online services and AI-enabled initiatives are being integrated into cooperative institutions to improve efficiency and transparency.
Simultaneously, greater emphasis has been placed on encouraging women, youth and rural entrepreneurs to participate in cooperative enterprises, making the movement more inclusive and future-ready.
As the Ministry enters its sixth year, the Foundation Day celebrations are expected to highlight both the achievements of the past five years and the vision for the future. Guided by the motto “Sahakar Se Samriddhi”, the Ministry continues to position the cooperative movement as a key driver of rural prosperity, inclusive growth and the vision of Viksit Bharat.
