Goa chief minister Manohar Parikar met the officials of the cooperative sector banks to have an idea of the loan amount pending with them.
He is planning to offset loans of those involved in mining activity in the state. As per an estimate, about Rs 10000 crore is likely to devolve into a bad debt if timely remedial steps are not taken.
The govt is willing to help out the beleaguered mining sector, so trawling sources of financial support including budgetary provision for the sector. Official sources say, cooperative banks alone have to be paid about Rs 350 crore.
