The entire nation stands in support of cooperative and urban cooperative banks said to be the worst hit by the recent demonetization. From DM to Chief Ministers, from an ordinary farmer to top political leaders- all have protested it as also petitioned the govt on the issue.

Govt sources however say it allowed cooperative banks to participate in the exchange process in the beginning but the reports coming from various states showed that huge amounts of black money were finding its way back into circulation through these banks. It was after three days that the RBI asked co-op banks to stop exchanging high denomination currencies. The govt has also started enquiry against several banks.
