Credit Co-ops must be strengthened amidst dwindling UCBs: Amin

The Gujarat State Co-operative Credit Societies Federation organized a Silver Jubilee Celebration Function in Gandhinagar on 26th February in which several eminent co-operators including two state ministers and NCUI President Dileep Sanghani were present. More than 800 representatives of Credit Societies across the State attended the function and seminar.

Coincidently, Ghanshyam Amin completed 75 years of his life devoted to cooperation and to commemorate the two on the occasion of Amrut Kaal, a State Level Co-operative Credit Societies Seminar was organized in Gandhinagar on 26th February 2023 with a pledge to achieve new heights of progress and development for co-ops of the state.

Inaugurating the Silver Jubilee Celebration Function by way of lighting a traditional lamp and also launching the website of the Federation, Jagdishbhai Vishvakarma, the Minister of Co-operation of the State of Gujarat, stated that the registration of all types of Co-operative Societies shall be made online so as to enable them to make direct approach for their issues and problems.

The State Government is pro-actively working in this direction because cooperation is a strong foundation of economic empowerment. There are about 85,000 Co-operative Societies in the state and therefore we have to promote and develop the co-operative sector through transparent administration and management.

On this occasion, a souvenir titled ” Rajat Sahakar Smriti Granth ” was released by Raghav Patel, Minister of Agriculture of the State. Applauding Amin’s contributions, he said Amin with a multi-splendored personality has achieved successes in various fields of life. “The credit goes to Shri Amin for organizing about 6300 Co-operative Credit Societies under one umbrella organization of the Federation and making it a giant and mighty Banyan Tree ”, said the Minister.

It is a matter of pride and pleasure that a silver jubilee celebration function of the Federation and Amrit Mahotsav of its founder Shri Amin are being organized and celebrated together.

Deelip Sanghani, Guest of Honour of the function and President of NCUI and Chairman of IFFCO stated that Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi has formed an exclusive and separate Ministry of Co-operation and has coined a slogan of ” Prosperity through Cooperation”. It is the dharma of each of us to strengthen credit societies and achieve the goal of “Prosperity through Co-operation”.

Presiding over the function, G H Amin thanked everyone and said the credit co-ops of the state are making all out efforts to free small people from the clutches of money lenders. “Our Co-operative Credit Societies are extending helping hands to small labourers and artisans by way of financing them who don’t have any property or the proof of high income”, he underlined.

Further, Amin felt that there is still huge scope for development of the credit sector in the State. He said there are about 77,000 credit societies currently working in the country. In Maharashtra, about 16,000 credit societies are functioning and about 7,000 credit societies are active in West Bengal, whereas only 6,000 credit societies are functioning in Gujarat.

The Government and Co-operative Leaders should jointly put in efforts to ensure that more and more credit societies begin to work in the state and should also ensure that small and needy people easily get finance, because day by day the number of Urban Banks are decreasing and for financing lower and middle classes, only one option is left and that is getting help from credit societies, he said.

Speaking on this occasion Chairman of Maha State Co-op Credit Societies Fed Omprakash Koite said state Credit Societies have a deposit base of Rs. 800 crores and therefore it’s in a position to help small and middle-class people. MP Narhari Amin said both Maharashtra and Gujarat boast a robust co-op movement. They help poor and needy people and must be strengthened.
