Co-op seminar in Ahmadabad: Minister exhorts youth to join movement

Young men and women should involve themselves in cooperative sector in order to make their contribution to job creation, said Ishwarsinh Patel Gujarat Cooperative Minster while inaugurating the ”Youth Cooperative Seminar -200 ” jointly organized recently by Gujarat State Cooperative Union and National Cooperative Union of India in Ahmedabad.

The minister said co-operative activities are going on in scores of nations of the world which indicate the power and influence of the co-operative Sector. In Gujarat nearly 1.65 crore people are associated with about 80,000 co-operative societies. “Amul” has become a globally reputed brand. The possibilities in the co-operative sector seem endless and young people could take advantage of them, the minister remarked.

Releasing “Yuva Samarthya” a booklet on the occasion, Patel said Ghanshyambhai Amin has done a commendable job by encouraging the new generation to join with the Co-operative Sector. The minister reiterated that young people should commit themselves to strengthening the cooperative sector.

The seminar was presided over by G H Amin, Chairman of Gujarat State Co-operative Union and Vice President of National Co-operative Union of India. In his remarks Amin explained the significance of co-operative Sector in banking, dairy, credit, sugar, irrigation etc and said co-operative sector made a major contribution to the economic development of the country.

Amin urged the college students to think in terms of seeking their career in the co-operative sector. Amin added that young people could train themselves to be active in the sector and thus help in resolving the problem of unemployment. He also suggested the co-operative sector should diversify into tourism, transportation, mountaineering, medical, education, cyber security, internet services etc.

Gracing the function as Chief Guest Anamik Shah, Vice Chancellor of Gujarat Vidhyapith, said there is a close bond between Gujarat and co-operative activities. Taking a dim view of capitalist and communist models, the vice-chancellor said cooperative is the best model of development for all. He called upon young students to join cooperative sector in order to work for the welfare of the people at the grass roots level.

Gracing the seminar as Guest of Honour Dr Shaileshbhai Zala said ”we have to achieve the development of society through self-development in spirit of co-operation. The larger transformation is possible through the co-operative spirit and therefore the ideals of Swami Vivekananda become relevant”.

Addressing the function as Guest of Honor, Ms. Urvashiben Brahmbhatt, the District Registrar of Co-operative Societies said there is a lot the youth could accomplish by getting themselves involved in the multifaceted Co-operative Societies.

Padma Shri Ms. Ilaben Bhatt, the founder of the Globally reputed SEWA organization was also invited but she could not attend the function on account of her health.

The experts guided young participants of the seminar on various subjects as how to build up career in the Co-operative Sector. Apoorvabhai Suthar, guided about building up career through Dairy Sector, Sanjay Raval about the opportunities available, and Ms. Ruzan Khambhata on the theme of the Youth and Entrepreneurship.

The function was anchored by Alpeshbhai Raval, Principal of Gujarat Co-operative Management Centre, Ahmedabad. The seminar was organized on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand.
