Delivering the convocation address on the successful completion of the PGDM-AB program at VAMNICOM in Pune on Saturday, B. L. Verma, MoS Cooperation stressed the importance of agribusiness and cooperative education in the overall development agenda of the country. Verma was the Chief Guest of the event.
While the minister awarded medals to the top three ranked students of the 29th Batch of PGDM (ABM), he gave Certificates to the participants of 55th & 56th Batch of PGDCBM on this occasion.
He congratulated all the students on the successful completion of the PGDM-AB program. He appreciated the efforts put in by VAMNICOM for nurturing agribusiness graduates.
He added that ample opportunities for the students exist in the agriculture & cooperative sector which is the backbone of the Indian economy in which youth should participate actively.
He congratulated all the students who were placed in top ranks as well as other students for successful completion of the program. He appreciated that VAMNICOM is playing an important role in cooperative development in India. He highlighted that since the inception of the Ministry of Cooperation, the ministry has taken many new initiatives for strengthening the cooperative movement.
The Ministry of Cooperation granted Rs 2516 crore for the computerization of PACS. PACS can now work as a multi service society by diversifying in more than twenty-five new activities such as starting a fuel station, LPG dealership, developing warehousing and cold storage facilities and supply of all the requirements at village level, added Verma.
“Soon India will become a five trillion economy and cooperatives will play a big role in this. He also informed that the Ministry of Cooperation is planning to establish the world’s largest cooperative university”, Verma underlined.
Later, speaking to reporters after attending the convocation ceremony, Verma said that the central government is bringing out a new cooperative policy soon to increase the per capita income of the farmers. The central government is also preparing the world’s largest food storage scheme, which will be implemented soon so that the farmers’ food grains do not go to waste, he added.
Alok Agarwal, Jt. Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation was the Guest of Honour. Dr Hema Yadav, Director VAMNICOM presented the report and delivered the welcome address.
The PGDM-ABM (2021-2023 Batch) students are drawn from different parts of the country. 97.14% students are from core Agriculture background and the rest are from Agro allied/Commerce/Sciences/Technology/Engineering streams etc. This year all the PGDMABM students of VAMNICOM have got placements in various reputed organisations viz. NAFED, IFFCO, GCMMF-AMUL, and many other organizations.
The PGDM-ABM course is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi. Association of Indian Universities have accorded this course as equivalent to M.B.A. degree.
Post-Graduation Diploma in Cooperative Business Management (PGDCBM) is a core program of VAMNICOM which aims to improve the decision-making
abilities and administrative competence of practicing and professional managers in co-operatives and other institutions.
The function was held at Shivneri Auditorium in the Institute premises. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by V. Sudhir, Registrar, VAMNICOM.
