The 4th Annual General Meeting of Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL) was held in New Delhi on September 29 with around 250 cooperative representatives attending physically and 11,827 participating virtually.
The AGM reviewed the society’s performance during the current financial year and discussed its expansion plans, with the General Body extending unanimous support to its initiatives.
BBSSL’s financial performance has shown a sharp jump since its formation. The cooperative recorded revenue of nearly Rs 222 crore in 2025-26, up from about Rs 59.25 crore in 2024-25. The government had reported a profit of Rs 28 lakh for FY2024-25.
The growth comes as BBSSL rapidly expands its presence in the cooperative seed market. As of July 2026, 38,665 cooperative societies, including 37,972 PACS, had enrolled as members. In addition, 33 States and Union Territories had nominated nodal agencies for promotion of the Bharat Beej brand, while 26 had signed MoUs.
Set up in January 2023 under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, BBSSL was promoted by IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NDDB and NCDC, with each promoter initially contributing Rs 50 crore. Its authorised capital is Rs 500 crore, while the paid-up capital was Rs 250 crore. KRIBHCO is the chief promoter.
The organisation has introduced seeds of 28 crops and 208 varieties under the Bharat Beej brand. During 2025-26, it produced 75,535 metric tonnes of seeds through associated seed-producing farmers. It is also working on conservation, multiplication and documentation of traditional indigenous varieties, including a programme in Uttarakhand.
The AGM highlighted BBSSL’s growing role in seed research and development through cooperation and discussed initiatives of the Ministry of Cooperation under the “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” vision. The cooperative model is aimed at bringing seed production, processing, certification, branding and distribution closer to farmers through PACS and other cooperatives.
With its membership and business expanding rapidly, BBSSL is seeking to establish a nationwide cooperative seed network while strengthening domestic seed production and farmer participation.
