In a crucial development for India’s cooperative sector, National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) President Dileep Sanghani met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Parliament on Wednesday.

The two leaders held an extensive 30-minute discussion focused on strengthening the cooperative movement in India and advancing the vision of ‘Sahakar Se Samriddhi’ (Prosperity through Cooperation).

Talking to Indian Cooperative soon after the meeting, NCUI President Dileep Sanghani said, “During the meeting, I updated PM Modi on the latest developments in the cooperative sector, emphasizing ongoing efforts to enhance rural economies, promote financial inclusion, and empower grassroots communities through cooperative initiatives”.

It is worth recalling that Prime Minister Modi officially launched the IYC in the presence of ICA leaders at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi.

On Wednesday, a key focus of the discussion was India’s active participation in the International Year of Cooperatives 2025. Sanghani detailed the programs lined up throughout the year that will highlight the vital role of cooperatives in economic and social development.

Sanghani, who shares a strong personal rapport with the Prime Minister, expressed appreciation for the government’s proactive support in modernizing the cooperative sector. He acknowledged key initiatives such as digital transformation, financial assistance, and governance reforms, which are crucial for the sector’s growth.

As part of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, information was provided about the cooperative activities being carried out by IFFCO and other national cooperative organizations. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing the cooperative ecosystem and maximizing its impact on the country’s economic landscape.

Speaking to Indian Cooperative after the meeting, Sanghani described the interaction as “fruitful and encouraging.” He stated, “It was a privilege to meet our beloved Prime Minister and discuss various aspects of the cooperative movement. PM Modi showed keen interest in the sector’s advancements and was eager to learn about the upcoming events for the International Year of Cooperatives 2025.”

With India preparing to take a leading role in the global cooperative movement, this high-level discussion underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging cooperatives as a driver of economic development, self-reliance, and social progress.

As the nation gears up for International Year of Cooperatives 2025, efforts are being intensified to further integrate cooperatives into the mainstream economy and enhance their impact on millions of livelihoods across the country.
