Speaking at a Women’s Cooperative Seminar, organized by Gujarat State Cooperative Union led by G H Amin in Gandhinagar Nitin Patel, Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat said that when the entire world is celebrating International Women’s Day, we should ensure all round development of women without gender discrimination.

The state level seminar which was held on the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2018 at Town Hall, Gandhinagar passed a resolution seeking to provide 33% reservation to women in the Cooperative Sector.

Nitin Patel who inaugurated the seminar said women should get equal treatment and society should ensure that the daughters get good education by way of bringing in changes in the decades old mindsets and practices.

“It is commendable that the empowerment of women is being actively pursued in the cooperative sector and therefore the cooperative sector of Gujarat deserves congratulations and compliments. We should observe the slogan of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” in letter and spirit coined by Shri Narendrabhai Modi Hon’ble Prime Minister of India”, stated Patel.

Presiding over the seminar Ghanshyam Amin, Vice President of National Cooperative Union of India and Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Union (GSCU) said it’s a matter of deep regret that we have to organise conventions for women empowerment after 70 years of independent India. Unfortunately, the women don’t get the place and the positions they deserve, Amin added.

The society will have to ensure the transformation for the progress of women. The share of women in the GDP of India is mere 10% against that of 40% in China. In terms of women empowerment, India ranks 108 out of total 144 countries. The contribution of women can be amply enhanced through cooperative activities. I therefore, urge more and more women to actively join in cooperative activities, said Amin.

Deelip Sanghani, Chairman of NAFSCOB, Mumbai and GUJCOMASOL, said “I witness competition between men and women but women are not competitors of men, but they are complementary to each other. It is essential that both remain supportive of each other for the growth of society.

Narhari Amin, Vice President of Planning Commission of Gujarat State, informed that co-operatives work in the direction of more and more empowerment of women. The co-operatives of Gujarat and Maharashtra hold prominent place in the country. The Cooperative activities have prevented the destruction of villages, he underlined.

Sunil Kumar Singh, Chairman of BISCOMAUN who was also present on the occasion also laid emphasis on increasing participation of women in co-ops.

Others present on the occasion included Smt Diptiben Patel, the Chairperson of Women Committee of Gujarat State Cooperative Union, Smt Miraiben Chetterji, Chairperson of SEWA Federation, among others.

Ishwarsinh T. Patel Minister of Cooperation, Gujarat released the souvenir “Sahakare Mahila Samridhi” on this occasion. Shitalbhai P. Bhatt, Executive Officer of Gujarat Cooperative Union, proposed a vote of thanks.

This seminar was attended by more than 900 delegates from all over Gujarat. The credit for the success of this Seminar goes to hard work and painstaking efforts put in by the employees by Gujarat State Cooperative Union, read a press release from the union.
