Global convention on cooperation kicks off in Bhopal

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated global convention on cooperation to mark the International Year of Cooperation 2012 on Febraury 9 in Bhopal.The convention was held in Bhopal under the joint aegis of Cooperatives Department and Sahkar Bharti. More than 1800 cooperators participated in the convention.

Delegates from 18 countries came all the way to join the first global event on cooperatives in the country.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that equilibrium among the components such as  body, mind and soul is important to achieve happiness in life. He stressed on the need of incorporating this equilibrium in the affairs of cooperatives.

Quoting liberally from scriptures the Chief Minister tried to convey to the assembled cooperators both from India and abroad that the philosophy of cooperative is ingrained in Indians psyche.

Former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu who was also present on the occasion narrated the gains of cooperative movement if it is followed in true spirit.

Praksh Bakshi, Chairman and Managing Director of NABARD also graced the occasion and spoke on various pro-farm policies initiated by Nabard.

The Chief Executive of National Cooperative Union of India Dr Dinesh also participated in the event. Talking to Indiancooperative.com Dr Dinesh said that many events to celebrate the IYC 2012 are being planned for the entire year. He read the papers on behalf of the President of NCUI Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav  on overview of cooperative in developing countries.

Dr Yadav could not attend the event as he is busy campaigning in Uttar Pradesh election where he is a candidate of Samajwadi Party.

Latest developments in the cooperative sector in various countries were discussed and different dimensions of the cooperative movement remained the focus of debate.

The cooperatives Minister Shri Gaurishankar Bisen is the convener and Sahkar Bharti’s national general secretary Shri Subhash Mandge is the co-convener of the mega event.

The two day event would have deliberations on the need to view cooperative movement as economic entrepreneurship and possibilities of such new sectors like water management, power distribution and insurance will be explored.
