Ransom call made to Amul MD

The cooperative circle is abuzz with the news  of  GCMMF Managing Director R.S. Sodhi receiving a threat call from fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari’s gang some days ago, according to media reports.

The reports say the perpetrator claimed to be a member of the Pujari’s gang. The police have initiated a probe in the matter.

“A few days back, Mr. Sodhi had received a call demanding Rs. 25 crore as protection money,” said K.N. Patel, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) of Ahmedabad crime branch.

According to Mr. Patel, the call was made from an international number and caller asked Mr. Sodhi to pay Rs. 25 crore or “face consequences.” The police, however, believe that “it may be a local call converted as international call by computer software.”

“There is software available in the market through which you can convert a local call as international call,” The crime branch official said.

“There also have been a few other such instances (extortion calls made by Pujari gang members) in which we are looking into,” Mr. Patel added.
