Milk not tea is the national drink:Amul

Deputy Chairman of planning commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia’s recent statement that tea would be the country’s national beverage has stirred controversy.

While Tea companies have welcomed his statement calling it a well-deserved claim dairy industries have objected to milk being relegated to play second fiddle.

The dairy giant Amul has expressed its sharp disagreement over Ahluwalia’s remark. The Amul officials have stressed that milk being a much favoured energy drink in the country deserves to be elevated to the status of the national drink.

It is worth mentioning that India holds a record in milk production. It is recognized as the largest milk producing nation in the world.

India had experienced a revolution in dairy development popularly known as the while revolution under the leadership of legendary Veghese Kurien in the early 70s.
