Amul lathi charge puts social media on fire

Famed brand Amul was in news on Tuesday for all the wrong reasons. Farmers in large number gathered at Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union  demanding more payment.

The aggressive protesters turned violent and broke the gate leading to police lathi charge on them. It created a ruckus in the campus with people running here and there.

It is being said that Anandi Ben govt fell prey to Congress design by resorting to lathi charge on poor farmers as resentment against the police action is pouring from all sides.

Social media, even without understanding that the protest is not against the GCMMF, the headquarters of Amul began to revile Narendra Modi and Anandi Ben.

Several top editors betrayed their ignorance and wrote that with the departure of Modi, Amul has fallen to bad days. Some of them saw Congress hand in it.

Indian Cooperative talked to GCMMF Managing Director R S Sodhi who scotched all rumours and said that Anand is peaceful and the matter relates to Kaira Milk Union.

Interestingly, Kaira is the lone milk union which is controlled by the Congress. Ram Sing Parmar , a congress leader is its Chairman. It was the special relation with Mr Parmar that led Vipul Chaudhary the former Chairman of GCMMF  lose his job.

Mr  Chaudhary began to kowtow Parmar and build relations with Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi during his last visit to Gujarat.

Informed sources say that the farmers protest was against the paltry bonus they received from the Kaira Milk Union. They were given 7% bonus while they demanded 14%.

The name Amul primarily belongs to Kaira Union only and it soon became a brand name for any product from the GCMMF which comprises of 17 milk unions. Now, even a product of Banas dairy is called Amul only for the outside world.

The media report in Delhi conveyed the feeling that the protest is taking place at Anand. A sample of activities on social media in the wake of police lathi charge on farmers…
