Addressing the gathering at World Food India 2025 held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the crucial role of cooperatives in strengthening India’s dairy sector and rural economy.

The Prime Minister said that cooperatives, alongside Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), are emerging as a powerful force in the country’s agricultural and allied sectors.

Highlighting the global context, Modi pointed out that the year has been declared the International Year of Cooperatives, which makes India’s progress in this field even more significant. He noted that cooperatives have played a transformative role in empowering farmers, enhancing dairy production, and boosting the rural economy.

The Prime Minister further underlined the government’s initiatives for the sector, including the creation of a dedicated Ministry of Cooperation, aimed at framing policies tailored to the unique needs of cooperatives.

He added that the government has also undertaken tax reforms and measures to improve transparency, ensuring that cooperative institutions can operate more effectively and contribute to national growth.

“These policy-level changes have given the cooperative sector renewed strength,” Modi said, adding that India’s cooperative movement is poised to play a defining role in shaping the country’s rural and economic landscape in the years ahead.
