Wheel of Taxi will turn for Driver’s Prosperity: Shah

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that Bharat Taxi will ensure drivers directly benefit from the income generated by their vehicles, marking a decisive shift away from exploitative models in the transport sector.

Addressing drivers as Sahakar Sarathi at the launch of Bharat Taxi, Shah said that earlier the wheels of their taxis worked for someone else’s earnings, but “from today, those very wheels will turn for their own prosperity.”

Explaining the cooperative structure of the initiative, Shah said Bharat Taxi will function on a driver-centric model in which earnings are shared fairly, ensuring that profits generated through the platform flow back to the drivers themselves. He said the model is designed to provide dignity, ownership, and long-term economic security to those behind the wheel.

Emphasising women’s empowerment, the minister said Bharat Taxi will also focus on ensuring safety and security for women drivers and passengers. He described the initiative as a significant step toward self-reliance and inclusive growth through the cooperative movement.
