Wheat Export Policy reserves Quota for Co-op Societies

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued detailed modalities for the export of 25 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of wheat under a new Public Notice, providing a dedicated allocation window for cooperative societies engaged in agricultural commodities.

According to the notification, 5 LMT out of the total wheat export quota has been earmarked for State Trading Enterprises (STEs) and cooperative societies functioning under the aegis of the Government of India.

The remaining allocation includes 18 LMT for large exporters having a minimum average annual export turnover of Rs 150 crore during the last three years, while 2 LMT has been reserved for MSME exporters.

Applications for export authorizations can be submitted online through the DGFT portal from May 1 to May 10, 2026.

The move is expected to benefit agricultural cooperatives involved in procurement, handling and export of farm commodities by enabling their direct participation in the wheat export mechanism. Export authorizations will remain valid for six months from the date of issuance.
