Despite steep US tariffs on Indian dairy imports, 50% on ghee and 75% on shrikhand, demand from the Indian diaspora remains strong, says Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul).
Speaking at BT India@100 in Delhi, Mehta dismissed the “tariff king” tag for India, stressing that such duties have not curbed overseas appetite for traditional products.
He highlighted Amul’s strategy to expand exports of value-driven, protein-rich dairy items, aligning with rising global focus on nutrition and quality food choices.
