Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah announced that “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University has been established as an Institution of National Importance through an Act of Parliament, marking a major milestone in strengthening cooperative education in India.

The university was created by converting the renowned Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) into a national apex institution exclusively dedicated to cooperative education, training, research, and policy development.

Shah said the university will serve as the country’s premier academic hub for the cooperative sector and has established five specialized schools: the School of Co-operative Management, the School of Co-operative Banking and Finance, the School of Agribusiness Management, the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the School of Governance, Development and Policy.

The initiative aims to nurture professionally trained cooperative leaders, enhance governance standards, promote innovation, and modernize India’s vast cooperative network, giving fresh momentum to the sector’s role in inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
