TN Co-op elections: HC to hear petition on July 7

A news outlet reports finally hearing a clutch of more than 400 petitions alleging irregularities in the cooperative elections in Tamil Nadu, the Madras High court has fixed July 7, for the petitioners and the authorities concerned to file their arguments.

Earlier, a division bench at Madurai ordered status quo on the elections conducted in phase 2, 3, and 4 to a section of societies.

In March, the State Co-operatives Election Commission announced elections to 18,775 societies, including 18,435 primary co-operative societies that come under the state’s 15 departments.

The commission decided to hold a four-phase election to the primary cooperative societies. Phase 1 covered 4,698 societies, phase II 4,479 societies, phase III 4,531 societies and phase IV 4,727 societies.
