TANFED to procure 15,906 tonnes of fertilizers

The district administration in Ramanathapuram , Tamil Nadu has earmarked Rs. 70.40 crore for farm loans and procurement of 15,906 tonnes of fertilizers for farmers to enable them to do paddy farming on about 1.71 lakh hectares, reports Hindu.

Cooperative officials claim, Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Societies (PACCS) have distributed Rs. 77 lakh as loans to 123 farmers in the district so far. Cooperative dept. has asked Tamil Nadu Cooperative Marketing Federation (TANFED), Sivaganga, to procure 15,906 tonnes of fertilizers, officials said.

The fertilizer stock position in the societies stood at 5,042 tonnes, including 2,203 tonnes of urea and 1,576 tonnes of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP). The department had taken steps to keep adequate stocks of seeds of paddy, pulses and other crops, official sources were quoted as saying.

After National Agriculture Insurance Company released Rs. 289 crore towards disbursal of crop insurance for the year 2013-14, the department had disbursed Rs. 277 crore so far.
