Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on June 16 announced a revised crop loan waiver scheme for farmers who borrowed from cooperative banks between May 1, 2025 and February 28, 2026.
Under the new scheme, all farmers, marginal, small and large, who availed crop loans up to Rs 75,000 will receive a full waiver. Farmers with loans exceeding Rs 75,000 will be granted a waiver of Rs 35,000. The revised package is expected to benefit 14.43 lakh farmers and cost the State exchequer Rs 5,932.23 crore.
The decision follows demands from farmers to broaden an earlier scheme announced in May that covered only small and marginal farmers with loans up to Rs 50,000. The waiver will cover 8.34 lakh marginal, 5.16 lakh small and 93,548 large farmers.
