Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar has called upon farmers and sugar cooperatives to embrace modern technology, reduce production costs and strengthen the economics of farming to boost farmers’ incomes.

Addressing a farmers’ gathering at Someshwar Cooperative Sugar Factory, Someshwarnagar, Pawar stressed the need for agriculture and the sugar sector to adapt to changing weather conditions, rising input costs and market uncertainties.

She said sugar cooperatives must look beyond conventional sugar production and expand into ethanol, biogas, CNG, organic fertilisers and other value-added products to build a more resilient rural economy. “Farmer welfare must remain the top priority,” she said, urging cooperatives to adopt precision planning, modern technology and sustainable practices.

Pawar praised Someshwar Cooperative Sugar Factory for its financial discipline, efficient management and commitment to farmers, noting the collective contribution of members, cane growers, workers, officials and management.

She also highlighted the cooperative sector’s role in education, healthcare and social development.

Minister Makarand Jadhav Patil, MLA Sachin Patil, former MLA Sambhaji Kunjir, PDCC Bank Chairman Dr Digambar Durgade and factory Chairman Purushottam Jagtap were present.
