The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has amended the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016, and included passbooks issued by State Cooperative Banks among the valid documents for Aadhaar address updates.
As per the notification, photo passbooks issued by Public Sector Banks and State Cooperative Banks, carrying the bank seal and authenticated by the bank, will now be accepted as Proof of Address (POA) documents for Aadhaar enrolment and update purposes.
The amendment is expected to benefit customers in rural and semi-urban areas who rely heavily on cooperative banking institutions for financial services and documentation.
However, the notification is procedural in nature and does not provide any additional regulatory powers or relaxations to cooperative banks. It only adds State Cooperative Bank passbooks to the list of acceptable Aadhaar address proof documents.
