It is indeed sad that despite having 1600 registered cooperative societies, only eight of these are categorized as Grade B and not a single cooperative society is categorized as Grade A. There are just 30 co-ops that pay dividends to the state government, reports the Shillong Times.
Though the state govt has been giving funds to the co-ops from time to time they have yet failed to develop, said the officer tasked with growth of co-op in the state.
These things were highlighted during an event held to promote rural tourism cooperative societies and indigenous products in the state.
