It is indeed sad that despite having 1600 registered cooperative societies, only eight of these are categorized as Grade B and not a single cooperative society is categorized as Grade A. There are just 30 co-ops that pay dividends to the state government, reports the Shillong Times.

Though the state govt has been giving funds to the co-ops from time to time they have yet failed to develop, said the officer tasked with growth of co-op in the state.

These things were highlighted during an event held to promote rural tourism cooperative societies and indigenous products in the state.

The show was organised by the office of MVDPTCS in collaboration with the Office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies and sponsored by Raj Bhavan.
